ABOUT
HI :)
Thanks for swinging by our corner of the internet.
Our story starts in 2016, when Hanna left her full time job as an Architect, trading CAD for chaos and set up Hanna Benihoud Studio in North London.
Since then, a fair amount has happened at HB HQ. We've transformed dead ends into back drops. We've illuminated dingy tunnels, hiding projectors in dustbins. We've taken over Kings Cross with real women's stories. We've twisted molten steel into beautiful ribbons. We’ve even reconfigured alleyways to stop men urinating.
In other words we have been pushing the boundary of where architecture ends and art begins, integrating themes of wayfinding, illustration, animation and lighting.
The canvas?
Doesn’t matter. Public squares. Public toilets. Billboards. Benches. Beaches. We love a challenge round here.
The medium?
Doesn’t matter. If we can’t build it in house we know someone who can. We work with world class fabricators to turn sketches into sculpture.
The message?
That really matters. Whether tactical or commissioned, planned or spontaneous, a one-off or a series, what unites the practice is a social conscience. For the spaces in our cities aren’t fair, and we must challenge that. In turn, we can change narratives, shift behaviours, heighten senses of belonging, even pleasure.
Whether you’ve seen our work on the streets, listened to Hanna speak at an event, read about us online, been redirected here from the Mayor of London’s Night Time Strategy publication, or merely on a random internet browse, please do get in touch if you like what you see.
A note from Hanna
Being an artist is undoubtedly a privilege, but it's far from an easy ride! Ambitious projects and pushing creative boundaries always come with their set of challenges. However, I am defined by my strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to conquering every challenge I undertake. Here's a snapshot of me doing just that outside of work! My victory in my first ever boxing match, cheered on by a crowd of 1000 people. If I can get through this, there's no art project I can't tackle!
NB: Hanna has hung up her boxing gloves undefeated as she promised her mother she would never put her through that again
