WHAT WE DO

HANNA BENIHOUD STUDIO
is an interdisciplinary design studio working between the worlds of art, architecture and design. We are passionate about working on exciting projects with a social conscience. We work on public art, wayfinding, illustration, animation, exhibition design and anything else we feel can tell a story and make a difference.

Our mission is to tell stories using empathy to engage and action to create. Our practice is centred around creating work that engages and builds community.

Often using the public realm as our canvas we make work that is site specific, exploring the boundaries of where architecture ends and art begins.

HOW WE DO IT

Empathy

The idea of listening shouldn’t be radical, but within the built environment it still is. We seek granular individual stories to get a holistic picture of a time or place to inspire the work. This personal connection between the storytellers and the work created means we may be the producers but the ownership is collective.

Creativity

We have no fixed medium working with helium to concrete. Each project uses materials and techniques that are site specific and aids in storytelling. This means no idea is off limits.

Action

We believe using stories to create work that publicly celebrates and elevates the community is powerful. We use art and design as a tool for positive disruption taking up space and interrupting the day to day.

Collaboration

No project we create is done alone. We are thrilled to work with communities, clients, makers, charities, local authorities and fellow artists to bring projects to life. This constant collaboration is critical for us to build a network of knowledge so we can collectively strive for a better city.

OUR STORY

Hanna began creating artwork at her kitchen table selling through galleries whilst working full time as an architect. Quickly the artwork began getting bigger and spatial and the lines between art and architecture became blurred.  Hanna began to use the tools of engagement developed during architecture consultation to inspire large scale artwork. After a collaboration with Levitt Bernstein to build the City Of Stories installation  for the London Festival of Architecture in 2016 it was clear to us that art had a way of taking up space and telling stories in a way that architecture did not. That was the beginning of Hanna Benihoud Studio.

The studio has gone on to create temporary, permanent and integrated public art both in London and abroad, always committed to telling stories and adding joy to the public realm.

If you would like to collaborate we would love to hear from you. Drop us a line at hello@hannabenihoud.com
