WHEN WE GROW UP

We cannot wait to see this project become a reality! ‘When We Grow Up’ is a large-scale mural project. It is an ongoing collaborative project with Gladesmore Secondary school reframing the conversation of the future of Tottenham, not around infrastructure or buildings but around the next generation. This mural will contribute towards the transformation of a new local cultural hub in Tottenham due for installation in 2021.

The phase 1 engagement process happened in the spring of 2020 during full lockdown. Without the ability to run the engagement in real life Hanna lead the workshops via YouTube. The work created by the young people was absolutely incredible. The students were asked to dream big and think about what they wanted to be when they grow up. The dreams fell into 5 categories; Carers, Sports, Women in Business, Arts and Science and Educators and Advocators.

This project was so special to be part of in a time that was very difficult for everyone. Our young people are full of so much spirit. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for them.   You can watch the some workshop videos and see a small selection of the 140 pieces of art created below.

This has been an enormously valuable opportunity for our students. They have found the participation in this project hugely enjoyable and have truly embraced the chance to focus on and express their diverse dreams for the future. The project has been excellently pitched, structured and delivered by Hanna and as a School we are very proud of the quality of the responses our children have produced. We are all very excited at the prospect of seeing their hopes and dreams transformed in to an inspirational piece of public art in the future.

This project has allowed my peers and I to keep in our minds and hearts the aspirations which we have for the future.

It has allowed us to remember that there is still a long way to go in terms of change that is required for ALL people, and has allowed us to express this in the form of art.

For me personally it has allowed me to develop my artistic abilities and confidence at something that I did not believe I had and has reminded me to always keep trying.
